HELLO FROM JOI’m running the NYC Marathon!
Sour Jo’s was born in the kitchen of a Pac Heights apartment in San Francisco, sometime between working in big tech and weeknight dinner parties.
While it’s true bread and granola are tasty outcomes of Sour Jo’s, in its truest form Sour Jo’s has always been about bringing people together around a table, sharing food, and exchanging memories & laughter.
There was a joyful warmth to it all, found in pulling a fresh loaf from the oven, delivering bread to friends across the city, passing a bottle of chilled red around the table, and making recipes that felt like second nature for friends who feel like family.
Today, Sour Jo’s lives in the Outer Sunset. Taking inspiration in golden hour walks along the Great Highway, the neighborhood owl at night, the smell of cardamom cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven, and evenings spent sharing bowls of noodles with friends on a cozy apartment floor.
Sour Jo’s comes to life in small rituals: measuring, mixing, tasting as you go, and in the slightly imperfect, handmade nature of it all.
Just as much, Sour Jo’s lives in the people who show up again and again: friends and family who taste-test, give honest feedback, and support every iteration. And when things don’t turn out perfectly, a loaf too dense or a quiche a bit unsalted, they’re still shared and enjoyed, reminding us that things don’t need to be perfect to feel special.
WHERE WE'RE GOINGIt’s my hope that Sour Jo’s continues to inspire not only delicious, creative food, but also meaningful moments of connection. Sour Jo’s exists to make food that feels like an invitation; to gather, to share, to slow down, and enjoy something together.
It comes from the belief that food is its own language, a way of expressing care and connection when words aren’t quite enough. Something to be shared, enjoyed, and returned to again and again.
